safely playing xbox 360 backups online

heres why...

The most important reason for patching /fixing / validating, your backup ISO files is for play on xbox live (XBL). If you play non-"stealth" games while signed into XBL, your console risks getting flagged for the dreaded ban hammer. Once banned, you will no longer be able to play on XBL, get updates, demos, etc. If you don't play on XBL or have no intentions of it in the future, then you need not worry.

get the software - download abgx360 GUI!

You have come to the right place to download abgx360, created by the folks at abgx360.net. The name is derived from the newsgroup alt.binaries.games.xbox360. If you are a user of xDVDMulleter - it is time to switch to abgx360 GUI! Both programs once used the same database to validate and check your games integrity compared to a retail copy; however, the abgx360 game database was migrated to a new server, and xDVDMulleter can no longer use it, making it virtually useless. The abgx360 verified games database will continue to be updated for use with abgx360. Not only that, it is much easier to use - especially the latest version (1.0.1). If you have not done so yet, please use the below links for your free download of abgx360. When new versions of the program are released, a speedy mirror will be found right here.

The following files were rehosted directly from abgx360.net and have not been modified in any way.

Using activate.iso to play wave 4 games

1. Download activate.rar - then extracting it to a location of your choice. Winrar will be required to decompress the file.

2. Install IMGBurn - the choice burning utility for Xbox 360 backups. It is free, and simply - it works.

3. Open the ISO file with IMGBurn. Typically, this can be done by right-clicking the file, then choosing the context menu for Burn using ImgBurn:

Burn with IMGburn

or by choosing OPEN WITH, then browsing to ImgBurn. If you have previously done this, it should be on the menu for future use. Otherwise, you may need to locate the file on your machine under it's program files directory. Open With IMGBurn

4. If you have not previously defined manual layerbreak settings within ImgBurn, you can skip this step and goto step 5. Otherwise, you will need to set it back to Calculate Optimal.

imgburn calculate optimal

This can be set once ImgBurn is opened, by going to Tools > Settings then to the Write tab.

<UNRELATED>

If you wish to never need to use a .DVD file to burn your dual layer media, you can set the layerbreak to 1913760.

imgburn manual layerbreak

<END UNRELATED>

5. As soon as you hit the Write button, you will get the following popup - hit yes.

imgburn are you sure

You will then get the following warning:

imgburn first layer warning

Explanation:

Choosing “Yes” will choose to write all data to the first layer. Choosing “No ”will choose to write all data to both layers.

CHOOSE YES

If it fails to work after following these instructions, feel free to try by using "NO" instead of "YES".

6: Once finished, Insert the Activate.iso disk into your xbox 360. It will read for a little longer than usual then finally it will say "Play DVD". Press "A" on your controller and a video should pop up saying, "Play this disk in an xbox 360 console".

Eject the Activate.iso disk and insert your Wave 4, unstealthed, or modified backup and it will load.

Enjoy!

Wave 4 info - playing on current firmware.

The following information has been grabbed from abgx360.net and you should always check there for current information. Thanks to them for all their contributions to the scene. Without them, your console would likely be banned. Thanks Kushan, and abgx360!

IF you are on iXtreme 1.5 or below, Wave3 games will not boot for you and thus Wave4 games will not either. In this case, YES you need to update your firmware!

IF you are on iXtreme 1.51 (Hitachi), then ANY wave will boot fine, including Wave4 however you must be EXTRA careful as you are not protected against corrupt or incorrect video partitions. This is one of the many reasons to always use abgx360. If a game is fully verified, playing it on iXtreme 1.51 is just as safe as playing it on iXtreme 1.6 - this includes Wave4 games.

IF you are on iXtreme 1.51 (BenQ/LiteOn/Samsung), then YES you need to update your firmware!

IF you are on iXtreme 1.6, you can ALSO play Wave 4 and above games, however you need to use a special activation disk to do so. This was added to the firmware specifically for this eventuality - the disk activates "one-shot-boot" mode, essentially it allows iX1.6 to boot any game you insert into the drive, even if its not properly stealthed. You simply insert the disk into the drive, let it spin up (it will say "play DVD"), then swap in your Wave4 game. You will need to do this each time you want to play a Wave 4 (or above) game. Don't worry, if the game has all the necessary stealth data, then iX1.6 will still use it, so if you boot a VERIFIED Wave4 game using this method, you should be just as safe as you were booting a verified wave 3 game.

The disk is available here - and needs to be burned to a DUAL LAYER disk, but entirely on the first layer (do not set a layerbreak and when imgburn prompts, tell it to burn to the first layer only).

A new iXtreme firmware will eventually be released with strict wave4 support (no activation disk needed), however some time needs to pass before this happens.

Correcting false statements of the past...

Unplugging the network cable or disconnecting from XBL will not 100% protect you from the ban hammer!

It was discovered and confirmed well over a year ago that, while it performs a reduced number of checks (PFI, DMI, SS, Capacity, etc.) when not connected to XBL, the system does in fact record violations offline and has a mechanism for transmitting that data upon the next connection to XBL. This type of data is not stored on the HDD, but rather in non-volatile system memory (NVRAM). As such, for non-stealth discs, it's strongly recommended neither to play, nor even to have the disc sitting in the drive, when connected *or* offline from XBL. Disc checks are performed periodically even if you're just sitting in the dash/etc, and not actually playing the game. With the offline recording of system violations, even being disconnected from XBL or having your network cable unplugged doesn't serve as any form of ban-proofing.

That said, make sure your games are stealth-checked with abgx360!

Patching games with abgx360 1.0.1 (03-23-09)

Screenshots and original tutorial borrowed from TheGRiM (TL) - thanks!

Edit your settings to match these, Some will already be set as default on your initial install and some wont. Remember to click File>Save Settings then choose "Default" to make these your default settings or save as a new setting if you wish to.

RED = Required

BLUE = Optional / Dependant on Firmware version.

Autofix Threshold:

Level 2 = Only use this level if you do your own game rips.
Level 3 = Use this option if you have downloaded your game.

Adjust Angle 359 (BAD KREON):
This is not required if you have ixtreme v1.4 or above as its already incorporated into the firmware. But if you also prefer to fix problems at disc level or if you do copies for other people and are not sure what firmware they have then enabling it is also fine.

Region Code:

This optional setting is for you to set the regions that your console(s) will play, For example if you are a UK user you would select both Europe and AUS/NZ.

SplitVid:
This settings is required for people who dont have iXtreme firmware but is also optional for people that do have iXtreme.

using with image files (.iso, .000)

Select the .ISO/.000 file:

Hit launch.

If you wish to check already burned DVD's, simply change the dropdown from "Files" to "Burned DVD".

then of course, hit launch.

Patching Wave 3 Games for iXtreme 1.4x/1.5

This patch will allow you to play new wave 3 x360 games on iX1.4x and 1.5. This WILL NOT prevent you from being banned from xbox live, but will allow you to play these new Wave 3 games without updating your firmware. Such a patch is good for those who do not want to upgrade, or are already banned from Xbox Live.

DO NOT play the patched game on XBL!

DO NOT have the game in while connected to XBL! Booted or not!

ixtreme 1.6 firmware will not boot these modified backups!

There's a method out there using Muleter and abgx - quite an involved process; This patch is as easy as a 2 clicks of mouse and accomplishes the same thing.

Download 3rd.Wave.Mod.Patch.For.iXtreme-TL.rar

Make sure you are running the new Xbox Dashboard (NXE).

1. Simply launch ppf-o-matic3.exe
2. Select your Wave 3 ISO file to patch
3. Select patch v14-15.ppf
4. Apply
5. ???
6. Profit

It is highly recommended that you upgrade your firmware to 1.6 if you want to safely play the wave 3 games on XBL without fear of being banned.
This patch is to be considered as a temporary solution only.

DO NOT PLAY ON XBOX LIVE AFTER PATCHING YOUR GAMES WITH THIS PATCH!

(Tested on HAWX on iX1.4)
Thanks out to TorrentLeech and TheGRiM for this patch.

The following tutorial is strictly for abgx360 0.9.4

Screenshots and original tutorial borrowed from TheGRiM (TL) - thanks!

You MUST move the included INI file abgx306.ini (included in 0.9.4 rar above) to the install directory, overwriting the old file. This will update where your client looks for the updated database. This is REQUIRED!

preliminary Setup

First - we must optimize the settings of ABGX so that we strengthen the overall safety of the game ISO. Some settings may not be needed in all cases; like the angle deviation for example. (v1.4 and above of iXtreme firmware does this automatically.)

Copy the following settings for your copy of abgx360 0.9.4 for the options tab:

And now the following settings for the AutoFix tab:

If you are a PAL user you need to select both PAL regions for the region check to show up as green on region free PAL discs.

Once Setup is complete go to File>Save Settings and then choose ok to save as Default. Otherwise, you will find yourself repeating what you just did the next time you need to patch a game.

using abgx360 0.9.4:

To put abgx360 to work, you need to go back to the quickstar tab the hit the browse button to locate the ISO/000 file you want to Verify/Fix. Once the file is selected, hit the big launch button at bottom of screen. Now watch the magic work...

If all goes well then you should have something like the following screen and all tests will return green results and then display this message:

All CRC's match
Verifications was successful!

Something went wrong..?

Yellow writing

If you get any yellow writing then a part of the stealth has failed or if you get writing saying verification failed and game not in database then it means that the game is currently not in the database so no comparison could be made for verification. If its a new or pre-release game then you should wait till after official release so that it can be added to the database ready to use.

Blue writing

If you get any blue writing this indicates that it is downloading the required stealth files to fix/validate your iso

Red writing

If you receive any red writing then this usually means that the game data was not ripped properly and very likely that the game wont even work

SUCCESS

If you get any "verification successful" or a "Files patched succesfully" etc then this means its validated or fixed your ISO and is now safe (as safe as can be) to play on line.

DISCLAIMER

It is VERY unsafe to have an unverified / unfixed game in your console while connected to live. If you do so, you run the risk of being flagged for the next ban wave.

As of now, this is the best protection available for playing your backups on Xbox Live. Of course, this does not guarantee anything. Good luck!

Flashing / modding your Xbox 360 to play backups

If you would prefer to pay someone to update your xbox 360 dvd-rom professionally, check ModMyBox.com. They also offer painting, repairs, and almost anything else you can think of.

The following tools were all provided by the guys at JungleFlasher.net. This is by no means the only way to accomplish an xbox 360 dvd-rom firmware update, but it is by far the easiest. (much easier than the previous IPREP method).

Download the following:

  • Jungle Flasher V0.1.62 beta
  • JungleFlasher Tutorial
  •

download the following tool to locate replacement firmware:

  • xbins.exe (by Ground Zero - homepage dead..)
  •

Using the above easy xbins.exe file you will automatically connect to the FTP site in which the firmwares are located. This is also a resource for many tools that can assist in the flashing process. Do yourself a favor, and research how to use the various tools if you do not wish to use JungleFlasher.

If you need help taking apart your console, there are numerous how-to videos on YouTube. Tools can also be purchased for cheap to assist with this process.

Follow the PDF tutorial above, and you should not have any issues.

Again, if you wish to have it done professionally, goto ModMyBox.com.

    CREATING YOUR XBOX 360 BACKUPS

Simply use the following tool created by the guys at JungleFlasher.net: Xbox Backup Creator v2.9.0.306. It should be self-explanitory.

    BURNING YOUR XBOX 360 BACKUPS

    1. Not necessary - but you may need to upgrade your DUAL LAYER burner's firmware as well. You can easily find firmware updates by googling your burner's model number with "firmware update" after it.

    2. Install IMGburn. Amazing program, and it's free.

    3. Before burning the game image you need to follow the tutorial on this website to safely burn it. I would also recommend deleting any ".dvd" files associated with your ISO, as abgx360 will recreate them correctly if needed.

    4. The only media you can burn xbox 360 games to are DUAL LAYER DISKS, which require DUAL LAYER BURNERS to burn. Verbatim DVD-R DL's are praised by lots - don't go cheap. (google link)

    5. After Validating/Fixing the game you right click the .dvd file that came with it and choose the "burn With IMGburn" option. You may need to associate this file type with IMGburn if this doesn't automatically work.

    6. The recommended burning speed is 2.4x as this will give you a nice steady solid burn. Using a higher speed on some burners/media may give bad results and non working games. Just burn it slow, why risk a coaster?

    7. That's all - good luck!
